Introduction:
If you are a Texan living in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metropolitan area, you probably know how dirty your shower glass can end up looking after just 2-3 days of showering. The water stains on the glass are from “hard water.” By the end of this article, you will understand what hard water is, how to clean it properly, and how to prevent it.

What is Hard Water?
According to Whirlpool Water Solutions, hard water is a natural result of minerals like calcium and magnesium accumulating during the water cycle. This can happen with both well water and even city water. The more calcium and magnesium dissolved in the water, the harder the water becomes. Although hard water is safe to drink, it can lead to ugly stains on sinks, tubs, and shower glass. Over time, these issues can end up costing you money.
How to Properly Clean Hard Water:
At our company, we use the following products:
For both sprays, start spraying from top to bottom and let it sit for about 1-2 minutes. Then grab a microfiber towel for a wipe-down. When using Bar Keepers Friend, use an SOS Steel Wool pad to scrub the areas around the hard water spots, then use a wet microfiber towel to wipe down the areas. In some cases, it might be too late to remove these stains, and at this point, repairing might be the best option.
How to Prevent Hard Water Stains:
The best way to prevent hard water stains is to clean after use. If it’s the sink or tub, always keep a spray around and do a quick wipe. For shower glass, it is always a good idea to keep a shower wiper around. Consider using this stainless steel squeegee along with an OxiClean shower guard spray. Spray and wipe after each shower, and you will never have any issues with hard water stains.
Conclusion:
Hard water stains can be a pain to look at, especially when they occur even after areas are cleaned. Hopefully, this article helps you maintain the cleanliness of your spaces. As always, please feel free to contact us anytime if you have any questions!
